Gordon & Teca Greathouse are the Directors of Shade and Fresh Water Project, Belo Horizonte, Brazil

This is a ministry of the Brazil Methodist Church. The Virginia Annual Conference is teaming with them to provide these critical services. The dream is to provide a Shade and Fresh Water Center in every local Methodist Church in Brazil. These centers provide impoverished urban children with a caring community, food, and education in a safe environment.

The Shade and Fresh Water Project is a national network to help local Methodist churches develop supervised activities to keep children off the streets, as children go to school for only four hours a day. Since most parents work two jobs, the majority of children are unsupervised for large portions of the day. Local churches help organize Shade and Fresh Water Centers in their communities to offer after-school programs for children between 6 and 14 years of age.

According to General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) missionary Teca Greathouse, "There are more than 3,000 children being cared for every day because of this connection with the Virginia Conference."

Chestnut Memorial has budgeted $1,250 for Missionary Support in 2013.
