The Scouting Ministry provides a program for young people that builds character, trains in the responsibilities of citizenship, and develops personal fitness. Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church has had a long history of supporting scouting with both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts being active ministries within the church. All scouting representatives of the church have had Sanitary Training and meet with scout units to make sure everyone gets trained.

Boy Scouting, one of the traditional membership divisions of the Boy Scouts of America, is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and who are at least 10 years old; or who have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10; or who are at least 11, but not yet 18 years old.  The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.  Scout Law: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.”

Troop 11 was started in 1934 and was sponsored by Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, which became Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church in 1968.

Richard Barnes is the Troop Committee Chairperson and Orie Heist is the Scoutmaster of Troop 11. The troop has a proud history of over 70 Eagle Scouts and a few scouts that earned their God and Country Award at Chestnut. The troop goes on monthly camp-outs such as fishing trips, hiking, backpacking, cooking, district events, lumberjacking, merit badge theme trips, biking, bowling and attending summer camp. The troop is always giving back to the community through service projects, and helping out at church.

The troop meets at Chestnut on Thursday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
